Mühlebach - Hohler Stein Alfdorf
To the south of Alfdorf, the “Hasenrundweg” winds through gorges and ravines on both sides of the Mühlbach. The tour starts off at the level of the Lower Jurassic era and leads over sliding masses of Knollenmergel ( type of marl) through the levels of the Stubensandstein era. The “Bembemberlesstein” is a striking sandstone formation with many small hollows. The hiking trail crosses several v-shaped streambeds that have cut into the terrain before reaching the first great goal, the Lorch Schiller Grotto. Now the trail continues down to Mühlebach and up again on the other side. Halfway up, one is surprised by the impressive Hohle Stein. A little watercourse, flowing over a hard sandstone ledge, is gradually hollowing out the softer sandstone lying beneath. A large fallen block of stone is witness to the strength inherent in this little stream, which has caused parts of the cave ceiling to fall.
