Stromberg-Murrtal Cycling Trail

The Stromberg-Murrtal cycling trail is about 152 kilometres long and crosses the county from west to east, offering a diversity of cultured and natural landscapes and interesting insights into the rich history of the county. The trail leads from the fan-shaped city Karlsruhe through the varied Keuper mountain country and two nature parks to Gaildorf am Kocher. Along the way lie two of the four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Baden-Württemberg: the Maulbronn Monastery and the Limes near Murrhardt.

The Stromberg-Murrtal Cycling Trail starts in Karlsruhe and leads to the idyllic Pfinz Valley through the woods and vineyards of the nature park Stromberg-Heuchelberg. A highlight of the tour is the Cistercian monastery in Heilbronn – a place where the life of the monks during the Middle Ages comes to life. The next stage leads past Vaihingen an der Enz and Bietigheim-Bissingen in the wine-growing region on the Neckar between Ingersheim and Benningen with the steep slopes supplying an impressive backdrop. With its Literaturmuseum der Moderne, Marbach, the birthplace of Friedrich Schiller, is a further highlight on this cycling tour.

The road then leaves the Neckar Valley and continues on to the Murr Valley, past the Urmensch Museum (Museum of Prehistoric Man) in Steinheim and then further to Backnang, which has a historical old town well worth seeing and the Stiftskirche (the Abbey Church) which is known far and wide. The tour continues through the Murr Valley and into the Swabian Forest with its lakes, gorges, and waterfalls. The next station is Murrhardt where the Nature-Park Centre is located and where the Limes Cicerones provide insight into the Roman past. Now it is not much further to the destination point Gaildorf am Kocher, where there is also a connection to the Kocher-Jagst cycle path.

You can get further informationsInfos to the cycling rail on the Homepage.
