Swabian Waldbahn – full steam ahead!

Let’s go with a full head of steam just like a hundred years ago. One of the steepest and most scenic tracks in Baden Württemberg runs from Schorndorf via Rudersberg to Welzheim. The train track, which is 22.9 kilometres long, leads us through a fascinating landscape and over three impressive viaducts. From the beginning of May until the end of October, the trains of the DBK Historische Bahn e.V. (Association of Historic Trains) operate on the Swabian Forest Railway tracks every Sunday and public holiday. The trains chug up this steep route during the Advent season also. Experience an unforgettable train ride and take time to go on a discovery tour at each stop. It is also possible to book your own private steam train on this route.

It is worthwhile taking your bicycle on the train – it’s free of charge. Rides through the Swabian Forest or the somewhat easier rides back to the Wieslauf or Rems valleys are recommended.

Further information on schedules, reservations and ticket sales as well as background information on the railway can be found on the website of the Swabian Forest Railway.
