History of Waldenstein Castle
Near Rudersberg, in the centre of the Swabian Forest, lies the attractive castle Burg Waldenstein. The medieval castle sits majestically enthroned above the Wieslauftal, gazing back at one thousand years of history. In the thirteenth century, the castle was in the possession of Count Ulrich I of Württemberg before passing to the community of Rudersberg in 1792.
The imposing building, with walls up to three metres thick, has never lost its romantic charm. This is ensured by the Göppel family who have been living in the castle for three generations. The hosts regard their castle as a refuge of regeneration and enjoyment which is why they like to thoroughly pamper their guests.
They are successful at this, not least because of the regional cuisine. The fresh herbs and spices, freshly made sauces, spaetzle and potato croquettes – all without additives – ensure that eating and drinking at the castle is true bliss.
However, not only culinary delights await guests at the hotel. There is also a varied programme including theatre, cabaret, live music and open-air festivals. There is something offered for every taste. The idyllic beer garden, the grand knights’ hall and the romantic “Burgstüble” with its open fireplace offer enough space for family get-togethers as well as company events.
