Take the bus to go hiking and biking
On Sundays and holidays from May 1 to October 29, the tourist buses make the diverse hiking and recreational opportunities of the Swabian Forest accessible. Instead of coming with your own car, you can simply take the bus to reach the hiking or biking trails – in an environment-friendly and uncomplicated way.
A further advantage of using public transport is that you can start hiking at one end and arrive at another from where you can continue by bus. This means you don’t have to return to your point of departure because your car is parked there, but can freely choose the goal of your hiking or biking tour. For instance, you can hike out from your home or hotel and travel back on the bus – or vice versa. As you can see, there are many possibilities of discovering and enjoying the Swabian Forest in an environmentally friendly way. And the VVS tariffs (local public transport rates) are valid on all three bus routes!
All tourist buses are equipped with a special trailer for transporting bicycles, e-bikes and pedelecs.
Waldbus (Forest bus)
The Waldbus follows a circular route from Schorndorf to Rudersberg, Welzheim, Alfdorf, Kaisersbach and Althütte and then back to Schorndorf. Many hints and tips for excursions and hikes along the route are listed in our brochures "Mit dem Waldbus und Limesbus durch den Schwäbischen Wald (incl. schedule)" and "Nimm mich mit! Der Waldbus für Aussteiger". You can order these in our online shop or download them from the download centre.
The Limes bus has two routes, a northern route and a southern route. It follows two circular routes with various connecting stops for the Waldbus and Räuberbus (Bandit bus). It also drives to the Mainhardt community in the Schwäbisch Hall district, not stopping at the county border.
The brochures "Mit Waldbus und Limesbus durch den Schwäbischen Wald (incl. schedule)" and "Nimm mich mit! Limesbus für Aussteiger" list all the excursions and hikes along the Limes bus route and include useful tips. You can order these in our online shop or download them from the download centre.
Räuberbus (Bandit bus)
In the Swabian Forest, the Räuberbus follows the route Sulzbach an der Murr – Spiegelberg/Jux – Vorderbüchelberg – Wüstenrot – Neulautern – Spiegelberg – Sulzbach (route 385).
You will find excursion and hiking tips on our internet page and in the brochures "Mit dem Räuberbus durch den Schwäbischen Wald (incl. schedule)" and "Nimm mich mit! Räuberbus für Aussteiger". You can order these in our online shop or download them from the download centre.
Berg- und Talbus (Mountain and Valley bus)
The new tourist bus route “Berg- und Talbus" (VVS route 467) connects the Murr Valley with the Bottwar Valley and on Sundays and holidays takes its passengers to the most scenic excursion and hiking destinations in this wine-growing region. From Backnang, it travels via Aspach, Sinzenburg and Lichtenberg to Oberstenfeld and further to Gronau, terminating in Prevorst.
From Großbottwar there are tourist bus connections to Neckartal and Marbach am Neckar or Besigheim with the “WeinKulTourer”.
You will find excursion and hiking tips in the brochure “Mit dem Radbus über das Murr- und Bottwartal in die Löwensteiner Berge (incl. schedule)”. You can order these in our online shop or download them from the download centre.
