Welcome to the Swabian Forest!

The splendid, and in some places almost untouched, idyllic landscape of the Swabian Forest lies before the gates of Stuttgart, the county’s capital, rubbing shoulders with the bustle of one of the economic metropolitan regions of Europe. The forest is the largest wooded area in Württemberg, and its soubriquet of “green lung” for the Stuttgart region is well-justified. Here, the visitor can enjoy “wood-ness” for hour upon hour.

Geological events have bestowed on this tract of land – today characterized by agriculture and forestry – with a special diversity in natural features. In swift succession, the visitor will discover deep gorges, charming orchard meadows, dreaming lakes, tranquil woods and sun-drenched vineyards.

The World Heritage Site Roman Limes, as well as historically important mills, old mines steeped in legend and relics from the rafting and glass-blowing industries, offer those interested in history a plethora of eventful and evocative stories and history. Every visitor – those seeking relaxation or sporting activities, or families with children – will find a broad palette of activities on offer ranging from tough mountain bike tours and easy family bike rides through theme hikes, Nordic walking, mill-trail tours, Limes explorations to snowshoe hikes, cross-country skiing, steam-train rides, horseback riding and much more.

Let yourself be inspired and take the plunge into the world of the Swabian Forest. We look forward to welcoming you – on this internet page and in real life!
