The Swabian Forest with its secluded river valleys and gorges, seemingly endless woods and superb mountain viewpoints is also perfect territory for mountain biking.

The Fremdenverkehrsgemeinschaft Schwäbischer Wald has initiated the mountain-bike concept and, together with representatives of the forest, the Nature Park and the neighbouring communities, has implemented a route network of 300 kilometres all together. An active team of mountain bikers collaborated on the route concept and have tested all the tours as to their suitability for the sport. An important factor was to bring an attractive mountain biking offer in line with the requirements of environmental compatibility for the routes.

In the three mountain-bike flyers “Kernige Steigungen und rasante Abfahrten” (Tough ascents and fast descents), interesting tours through the natural paradise and past vineyards, orchard meadows and numerous points of interest are introduced. In Part 1, four routes are described:  Oppenweiler, Aspach, Sulzbach an der Murr, and Spiegelberg; in Part 2, three different tours in the Murrhardt vicinity are described; and Part 3 deals with the region Rudersberg, Welzheim and Alfdorf.
