Museum of Local History Althütte

The museum opened on April 30, 1988, in the former schoolhouse which was built in 1873. Here we learn something about local history; how the people in Althütte and the surrounding area lived and worked.  For more than one hundred years, many families manufactured wooden rakes and other wooden items for daily use that were sold by pedlars far and wide. The inhabitants of Althütte were known as the “Rechenspitzer” (rake-sharpeners) all over southern Germany.

Alongside the manufactured objects, the original tools used for making them are also to be seen. At the entrance to the museum in a glass cabinet, there are memorabilia that belonged to Anna Haag née Schaich. Anna Haag was born in this house on July 10, 1888, the daughter of a teacher. She became known as a writer and social politician.
