Berglen Museum

The local museum was established in the former agricultural estate in Oppelsbohm. This is a stilted building of the “house block” type, which is typical of the Berglen region. It accommodates everything under one roof and has room for a dwelling, byres and barn.

Here, in an instructive way, different subjects are thematised, depicting former living conditions and economic development in the Berglen region.

  • Peasant housekeeping and management in a stilted-house block
  • The development of special agricultural cultures as they adjusted to the changing traffic and market situations
  • The peasants’ supplementary jobs for a pittance as potters, weavers, and cobblers
  • Forestry and development of the water supply
  • Development of a fire-fighting capability and church and nursery schools throughout the  scattered settlements
