Glass Museum Wüstenrot

The museum was established in 1999 on the top floor of the Old Town Hall after extensive renovation. The main emphasis of the permanent exhibition is on the craft of the glass-blowers, which  has been demonstrably flourishing in Wüstenrot and the Swabian Forest ever since the fifteenth century. Of particular importance are the products of the glassmaker families Greiner and Wenzel.

The museum possesses a collection of valuable glasses and other objects from early glass production. The exhibition also presents testimonials to the town history and the Tübingen psychologist Ernst Kretschmer who was born in Wüstenrot. There are also works by the painters Richard Winckel (1870-1941), Paul Kapell (1876-1943) and Peter Jakob Schober (1897-1983) who all have connections with the region. Generally, there is a special exhibition in the “Ratsaal” of the community centre once a year.
