Glass Museum Spiegelberg

Glass has been manufactured here since the thirteenth century. The glass-blowers found all the materials here that they required: wood from the forest for firing the ovens and for producing potash (potash is used as flux for reducing the melting point of the glass mass); quartz sand as the main component of the glass; and lime as a hardener.

Undertake a journey through the world of the glass- and mirror-makers. Products from long-forgotten times give an idea of the glass art manufactured in our forests. The exhibition presents glass from the late Middle Ages up to the present from the areas of glass production, wood glass, colourless and stained glass, as well as mirror manufacture in Spiegelberg.
