The romantic mills in the Swabian Forest

The historic mills are an insider secret for many visitors to the Swabian Forest. Mills are among the oldest technological apparatuses of humankind. Hardly anyone can evade their mysterious fascination. Their often idyllic, and usually solitary, location has stimulated flights of fantasy throughout the centuries and has given rise to not a few scary stories about millers and their mills.

Along a course of 37 kilometres, the Mill Hiking Trail connects 11 of the most attractive, still-preserved mills. For shorter tours, there are three sign-posted circular tours of 11 to 16 kilometres available.

It was very important for us to select paths as natural as possible through the woods and meadows and far from the madding crowd. We wanted to create a hiking experience on the way to the romantic mills that also offers the opportunity to experience nature and landscape in their original and diverse beauty.

Such hiking on “nature’s trails” does, however, require the correct equipment. That is, sturdy hiking shoes and surefootedness. Depending on the weather, some sections of the trail could become muddy, slippery and rugged. Young hikers particularly love such natural trails, close to nature, as they make the hike interesting and diverse.

You can order the broschure "mill hiking trail" in english in our online shop or download it.
